"One to weep," said Zeel.

Shaaran's blush deepened.

Norris scowled. "Then why did the rhyme not say so plainly?" he growled. "Why should we be tricked and puzzled by a riddle?"

"There is an old Traveler saying that life itself is a riddle we must all solve for ourselves/' said Zeel. She spoke lightly, but her eyes were thoughtful.

Shaaran had begun collecting the scattered rolls of silk. "I cannot see the bukshah tracks at all now," she said nervously. "I fear we are lost."

But Rowan could see his pack still lying where he had dropped it, not too far away.

"All is well!" he exclaimed, pointing. "That is where I left the path!"

"Thank the heavens." Zeel sighed with relief. "Then let us bind our wounds, mend the box of silks somehow, and leave this accursed place as fast as we can. Its very air sickens me."

Within the hour the companions were slowly threading their way through the columns of ice once more, this time with Zeel in the lead. It had not taken long for her keen eyes to pick up the trail that Rowan had been unable to find.
